Charity expands Handiworks Plus service

News from SW

Handiworks Plus, a social enterprise that provides a range of local, experienced, competitively priced and police checked tradespeople is now available to anyone in need of home repairs in Bournemouth, Poole, East Dorset, Christchurch and Purbeck.

Dorset charity Help and Care set up the membership scheme in 2007 so that older people and Carers could dial one number and access a range of tradespeople. It has now been expanded so that more people can benefit from the service.

People using Handiworks Plus can dial one number and speak to a member of the Handiworks Plus team who will organise for a contractor to complete the work required.

Marianne Lambourne, a Director at Help and Care said: “Anyone can be a victim of a rogue trader. We wanted to expand the service so we could provide more people with a service that takes the stress away from finding trustworthy tradespeople and doing DIY! From electricians, carpenters and plumbers to a general handyman who can put up shelves or build flat pack furniture so you don’t have to – we can help!”

Handiworks Plus is a social enterprise, which means that 100% of any profits from the service provided by the Handiworks Plus Team will fund Help and Care’s charitable work. Help and Care is a Dorset charity with a passion for ensuring people, especially older people, can live the way they want to live. Handiworks Plus membership is £25 a year.

Marianne added: “Often people feel that they would rather purchase from a business that is going to use the profit to make a difference to the society we live in and anyone who becomes a member of Handiworks Plus can do just that.”

For more information or to receive a membership pack please call the Handiworks Plus team on 0300 111 3303, email handiworksplus@helpandcare.org.uk or visit www.helpandcare.org.uk
