RISE win green travel award
News from RISE
RISE has received the award as part of the SW Commuter Challenge, which recognises organisations for their use of sustainable forms of travel to and from work.
Throughout June employees of RISE, AECOM, and LV> earned the most points for travelling to work using public transport, cycling, walking and car sharing. The challenge was run as part of the Pynes Hill Travel (PHiT) plan and supported by the Highways Agency and Devon County Council.
Julie Harris, acting chief executive of RISE, who won in the small company category, said:
“We’re thrilled to have won the SW Commuter Challenge. Everyone here at RISE already thinks ‘green’ because we support social enterprises – businesses that trade for people and planet. For example, Lucy and Kat cycle in from the city centre and Sophia and Anne car-share. Not only does it save money, but it’s more fun than driving alone. The commuter challenge is a great way to help people think about their carbon footprint – we really enjoyed taking part and will do it again next year!”
Mike Ginger, of the Highways Agency, said: "Pynes Hill has a very active steering group of employers who have enthusiastically taken part in the Commuter Challenge. It is a great pleasure to recognise their efforts through these awards."
