West Dorset Food and Land Trust

WDFL Kitchen
The West Dorset Food and Land Trust is based in Bridport, a market town of 8,000 people on the Dorset coast. Established in 1996 it focuses on promoting local food and sustainable agriculture and developing food and health initiatives. They set up Dorset's first Farmers' Markets in 1998, initiated the Dorset Food Week and developed a Local Food Directory. The centre piece of their work is a specialist incubator and workspace which transformed a large empty building into the thriving Bridport Centre for Local Food. Their food and health initiatives focus on work with young people through the 'Grow it, Cook it, Eat it' programme, the development of school gardens and children's cookery workshops. Their work was recognised in 2005 as finalists in the BBC's Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards 2004.
