Payment cap lifted for Community Interest Companies

The Regulator of Community Interest Companies has decided to raise the limits on payments they can make to investors.

The changes, which will come in to force on April 6, allow CICs to offer dividends of up to 20 per cent without reference to the Bank of England base rate. It is hoped that this will make them more attractive to potential investors.

Good start to New Year for village shops

The Co-operative Loan Fund has made a successful start to 2010 by offering loans to two village shops in Ashton Hayes, Cheshire, and The Seavingtons, Somerset. The loans will be used to help the two rural villages establish a community-owned shop and join the 220 communities currently benefiting from the community-ownership model. In Ashton Hayes the money will be used to take over its current village shop, while The Seavingtons will use the loan to build a brand new shop to meet the needs of its 500 residents.
