Future Jobs Fund: do you need more staff?

This fund is designed to create jobs for young people and individuals in unemployment �hotspots�. The Social Enterprise Coalition have worked hard to reduce the minimum number of jobs per bid from 100 to 30 to ensure that it is more accessible to social enterprises. However, if you can offer even 1 or 2 jobs, then bids are being coordinated both nationally and locally to help social enterprises collaborate as part of a consortium or in a partnership.

Future Jobs Fund

On 13 May the Prime Minister (with James Purnell and Hazel Blears) announced a Future Jobs Fund, a significant proportion of which is targeted at social enterprises. This fund is designed to create jobs for young people and individuals in unemployment �hotspots�. The Social Enterprise Coalition have worked hard to influence DWP to reduce the minimum number of jobs per bid from 100 to 30 to ensure that it is more accessible to social enterprises. Commission announces �10 million funding programme for community organisations

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has announced a new �10.2 million Strategic Funding Programme, providing three-year project-based funding of up to �450,000 for community and voluntary sector organisations and social enterprises. A first priority area will fund organizations providing guidance, advice and advocacy services in areas including education, health and employment, as well building capacity where there are gaps in local provision, for example for women who have experienced violence. A second priority area will support increased co-operation between groups -- including ethnic or religious communities -- in areas where there are known tensions.

People�s Millions 2009

People's Millions has proved to be an exciting venture for Big Lottery Fund, breaking new ground by giving people a real say in how lottery money is spent in local communities throughout the UK.

This was launched on 18 March and the closing date for entry for this year�s competition is noon on Friday May 15th.

New Loan Fund for South West Businesses

As part of the drive for economic recovery, the South West Regional Development Agency (RDA) has announced the launch of a new �10m South West Loans Fund which is now available to help growth-oriented business with viable business plans. Of this �5m is available in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and �5m for the rest of the region.

Farming innovation fund launched

A new fund to help the region�s farmers and growers develop new and more profitable methods of dealing with on-farm resources has been launched at the Royal Smithfield Christmas Fair. The initial budget for the fund is �5.3 million but there is considerable scope to increase that amount if sufficient good quality proposals are forthcoming.

Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts - Local Food Grants

Grants from �2,000 are available for not-for-profit groups and organisations in England delivering such projects as growing, processing, marketing and distributing local food; composting and raising awareness of the benefits of such activities. Small Grants � Between �2,000 to �10,000 and Main Grants - Between �10,001 to �300,000 are available.

Big Issue Invest respond to social crisis

Social enterprises and trading arms of charities are responding to the social crisis that is the fall-out from the current financial turmoil. Big Issue Invest, part of The Big Issue group of companies, will be part of this response by providing loan finance from �50,000 to �250,000 to meet shorter-term cash-flow or longer term investment needs.
