MP Dawn Primarolo visits social enterprise trade fair


Co-operatives SW, the umbrella organisation for co-ops in South West England, and RISE, jointly hosted a trade fair for co-operatives and social enterprises.

Dawn Primarolo, Minister for Public Health, visited the Fair to present an award to Devon-based Upstream, the winner of a south west social enterprise photography competition designed to show how social enterprises are transforming lives.

RISE negotiates Third Sector discount to attend World Social Marketing Conference

Acting on behalf of Social Enterprise Mark holders, RISE members and social enterprises in South West England and beyond, RISE has successfully influenced the pricing structure to attend the World Social Marketing Conference. Organisers had not accurately reflected the ability to pay of organisations working in the Third Sector.

RISE hosts visit for Office of the Third Sector



RISE recently hosted a visit from James Strachan (Deputy Director) and Liz Liston-Jones, both from the Office of the Third Sector (OTS). Kathy Baker (Social Firms UK) and Victoria Zastava (Social Enterprise Mark Independent Panel and South West Regional Development Agency) joined the meeting.

RISE Social Enterprise survey 2008: summary of key findings

RISE is constantly updating the quality of its information and knowledge about the social enterprise sector to help shape regional services, and to make the right case to policy-makers on your behalf.

Between the months of April to July 2008 RISE ran an on-line survey to which a total of 133 organisations answered (i.e. organisations driven by a social and/or environmental objective and earning income by providing services or products).

The Forest of Dean Credit Union are the delighted winners of a luxurious food hamper, following their participation in the RISE on-line survey to help collect up-to-date information on social enterprises. The contents of the hamper were supplied by Essential Trading Co-operative Ltd, a well-known worker�s co-operative in South West England.

RISE, in partnership with Capacitybuilders, is conducting a consultation to identify priorities for support for social enterprises in South West England. The findings will inform RISE's ongoing work and be used to commission future services, so it�s really important that you take part. You can contribute by attending an event, or completing the online survey.

Invitation to tender: Capacity Builders Social Enterprise Programme

RISE has been commissioned by Capacity Builders to develop its Social Enterprise Programme for South West England. The contractor will be required to work with RISE over the development phase (from now until mid September) to: identify and develop key priority actions from existing research and new consultation; develop and expand a regional portfolio of projects to address these priorities; and support RISE in writing the bid. Deadline for tenders: Monday 4th August 10am.
