Take Part Pathfinders

Government Office for the South West has been tasked by (the Department of) Communities and Local Government (CLG) to identify areas which might be considered as a potential �pathfinder� for the next phase of the Take Part programme. It is likely that one just project in the South West, in addition to the current Exeter based project, will be put forward to CLG.

The Awards for All programme is going to change its format from April 2009

Awards for All is currently funded jointly by Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England. From 1 April 2009 each of the lottery distributors supporting the scheme will have their own small grants programmes up and running, meaning that applicants will have four separate and more tailored programmes of funding to apply to.

Defra announces third sector strategy

The Department for Environment and Rural Affairs (Defra) have announced a new third sector strategy. The Strategy includes a new Defra social enterprise partnership with the Social Enterprise Coalition, Co-ops UK, the DTA, the Plunkett Foundation and RISE.

Total Coverage has made it through to the finals of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sustainable Business Awards 2008



Total Coverage plus other shortlisted businesses will be judged at the end of October by an eminent judging panel including representatives from the Environment Agency, Portsmouth and South East Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hampshire County Council and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.

Local project donations matched

Business donations to local community projects across England will be matched by Government funds under a new �50m scheme. The Grassroots Grants endowment fund is aimed at community groups with an income of less than �20,000 and is designed to encourage businesses to support their activities over the long term.

Young people as the solution not the problem

Young people in Bristol are finding new ways to make sure their ideas are heard using their own social enterprise. A group of ten young people from the New Deal for Communities area of Barton Hill, Redfield, Lawrence Hill and the Dings, were initially employed by regeneration programme Community at Heart as Young Advisors.
