News from RISE: 374, 065 awarded to Social Enterprise Infrastructure in the South West

Capacity Builders has awarded 374,065 to the SW Social Enterprise Programme for 2008-11 to improve the quality of support to them. This is part of Capacity Builders national programme.

The three programmes that have been supported are:

1. Development of the Social Enterprise Mark with the English Regions led by RISE

This project will help to establish a national roll-out of the Social Enterprise Mark that has been developed in the SW. The programme will comprise additional market research and fact finding, a training and support programme for delivery partners and work to establish a robust way of working together with the regions to deliver the Mark

2. Reaching BME Communities led by CEMVO in partnership with Social Enterprise Works

CEMVO will improve access to social enterprise support for BME communities who are an economically excluded group. The programme will engage and develop social entrepreneurial skills within BME communities using the role models via action learning and peer support, stimulate a culture of collaborative working between the social enterprise sector and BME voluntary sector and improve the reach and penetration of Business Link Services through improved referral systems

3. The Market Place Inspiration, information and exchange for rural social enterprise led by the Development Trusts Association

This project aims to be a catalyst for inspiration, learning and exchange for rural communities via a facilitated network we will enable rural social & community enterprises. The two main activities carried out under this programme:

a) Trade Secrets' building effective and resilient rural social enterprises - a programme of sub-regional learning and exchange events for rural social enterprises, supporters and partners.

b) Trading Places - programme of tailor-made/ group or virtual visits - linking to and learning from other local heroes - successful rural social enterprises that have grown and learnt from their mistakes.

Additionally there will be a Trading Up option for a small group of social entrepreneurs committed to working on real problems and implementing solutions to improve the effectiveness and competitiveness of their enterprise, enable personal development and learn from others.
